Targeted Campaign Setup Guide

The tools in the Engagement section of the Merchant Portal can be used together to make a campaign more effective. Below is an example of what a user would experience when the targeted campaign is set up, as well as the steps required for the set up.

Example Customer Flow

  • Customer receives a push notification and / or email letting them know they have an offer waiting for them on the app or web-ordering site
  • When they tap on the push notification, they are taken to the app’s home feed, where they see a marketing card promoting the special offer
  • When they tap on the marketing card, it brings them to the offer page where they can select an eligible product and add it to their cart. If the offer requires manual activation, they will need to press the activation button at the bottom of the screen
  • When the customer proceeds to the checkout screen, they will see a discount applied to their cart

Portal Setup

  • Create a segment to capture your target users: https://kb.smooth.tech/knowledge/how-do-i-create-a-segment
  • Create an offer that you would like to share with your target users. Make the offer inactive until it is associated with the segment and activate it once the campaign starts: https://kb.smooth.tech/knowledge/discounted-product-offer
  • Email support@smooth.tech to have them associate the segment with the offer. Provide the exact names of the segment and offer to ensure our team can locate them
  • Set up a marketing card to promote the offer to your targeted user segment. Link the segment to the app feed card and set the card action to the eligible offer during setup.   • When the campaign is ready to go live, send a push notification to your segmented users to let them know about the offer. Link the segment to your push notification and set the action to open the app  (When the app opens they will see the marketing card right away): https://kb.smooth.tech/knowledge/how-to-send-a-mobile-message
  • **Additional marketing recommendations outside of the Smooth platform: 
    • Send an email blast to the segmented users. For this step, download the segment list from the portal, remove any users that have not opted in for emails (indicated by a 0) and upload the list to your e-blast provider. If you have a MailChimp account, you can sync the segment with your MailChimp list during the final step of creating a segment. 
    • If your offer is targeted towards all users, advertise your offer on social media and consider boosting your post!
