How to Manage the Refer A Friend Credit Code

Update your Refer-A-Friend configuration directly in the merchant portal.

Referrer: The current user of the app who is inviting or recommending the app to a friend.

Referee: The friend who receives the referral or invitation from the current app user.

Important Notes: 

• In order to utilize this self managed feature, you must first have the Refer-A-Friend configuration already on your platform. If you do not, please reach out to support@smooth.tech to get it implemented. 
• The Referral Message box will update the messaging on the app in the Refer A Friend screen only. It will not update the messaging in “How it Works”. 
  
  Navigate to Refer-A-Friend

• Navigate to the section by selecting Engagement in the left-hand panel and locating it under Credit Codes.
• Locate the Refer-A-Friend credit code by searching the word “Refer”. Note, the Refer-A-Friend credit code is an existing code set up by Smooth, and can be edited only, not created. 

1. • Activate or Make Inactive
     • Toggle the code to make it active or inactive.
   • Referral Coupon Name
     • Choose a customer-friendly coupon name for visibility such as “Refer A Friend”.
   • Coupon Description
     • This field is internal only
   • Referral Message Box
     • Customize the referral message that will appear in the app in the Refer A Friend screen
     • Ensure it has the Referral Token (the code the referee uses) by inserting the referral token. To insert this select the blue icon which will insert the code
     • You can write your messaging before, after or around this referral code. Check out the bottom of this article for our copy recommendations. 
   Reward Options
   • Choose between fixed dollar credit or fixed loyalty credit for rewards.
   • Set the referral reward value for both the referee and the referrer.
   Reward Conditions
   • Decide if a purchase requirement is needed for either party to receive rewards.
   • Set a minimum order amount if a purchase is required.
   • Toggle purchase requirements for the referee and the referrer separately.
   Ensuring Consistency
   • Ensure that the referral message aligns with the reward conditions set.
   • Use provided copy examples for clear and effective messaging.
   Finalizing Configuration
   • Insert the referral code in the message at the desired location.
   • Review and adjust spacing around the referral code for clarity.

Option 1: referrer and referee gets points/dollars right away as soon as the referral and code is used during the signup process.

Hey! I've been loving the X App & thought you'd like it too. Sign up using this referral code and we will both get X points/dollars!

Option 2: referrer refers friend. The referee gets

• A) points/dollars right away. The Referrer gets points/dollars after the referee's first transaction (no minimum transaction)
• B) points/dollars right away. Referrer gets points/dollars after minimum order transaction size is met by referee.

B) Hey! I've been loving the X App & thought you'd like it too. Sign up using this referral code and instantly get X points/dollars. After your first purchase of X, I will get X points/dollars too! 

Option 3: referrer refers friend. Referrer and referee only gets points/dollars

• A) when any transaction is completed by the referee. 
• B) when minimum transaction size is met by the referee.
